Faiths Act

How To Get Involved

Our ambition is that, across the world and for the MDGs, Faiths Act. In particular, the Tony Blair Faith Foundation has identified the battle against malaria as an immediate priority to boost the MDGs.

In response to the UN Secretary-General's urgent call for universal bed net coverage by 2010, the Tony Blair Faith Foundation is working to bring together people of all faiths, and none, together to achieve this bold ambition.

Get involved and help us eradicate deaths from malaria:

What's already happening?
  • The United Methodist and Lutheran Churches have each committed to raising $100 million for bed nets from their memberships.
  • NetsforLife, a project of the Episcopal Church, is working with local Anglican churches and ecumenical organizations in 8 countries in Africa.
  • Leading American Muslim groups travelled to Mali with Malaria No More in December to meet their African counterparts and help distribute 2.2 million bed nets in a country that is 80% Muslim and 100% malaria-endemic. As a result of this effort, 80% of Malian children under five now sleep safely under bed nets.
  • Rick Warren's Saddleback Church and PEACE initiative in Rwanda has made malaria a core part of its work.
  • Churches, mosques and other places of worship (which far outnumber health clinics) are being looked to as centres for distribution and community-based health education in Africa.
  • The Union for Reform Judaism has taken on malaria and hopes to supply 50,000 insecticide-treated bed nets to families in sub-Saharan Africa.
arijohnson.jpg"I just came back from a meeting with the traditional leader and several community Imams of Yirimadjo. After we exchanged blessings, the Imams spoke eloquently about the difficulties that many members of their congregations face, accessing medical care for their families for malaria and for other illnesses. Their congregants often seek them out first, they explained, when there is a sick person and their family cannot afford to access health care and essential medicines.

They expressed their excitement about our Community Based Malaria Program, about our efforts in malaria prevention and treatment, and most of all about our focus upon improving the health system as a whole to make health care accessible for the poor and the marginalized. They offered their support in mobilizing their congregations around the Community Based Malaria Program, and explained how excited they were for us to work together.
