Summer Course: Religious Rights and Rule of Law

This was the second of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s university summer schools. McGill in Montreal followed Singapore. The theme was human rights, law, and religious minorities, a mainstream theme in our Faith and Globalisation Initiative. Though the two week course was accredited by the participant universities, it happily avoided the intense pressure of contemporary university life. The chance for probing debate and free-wheeling discussion was taken by everyone, not least the teaching staff.

Faith and Globalisation Hosts International Day, a Time to Deepen Commitment and Create Opportunity

In an increasingly digital world, face to face encounters still reign supreme. This was abundantly clear over the two days of the Faith and Globalisation International Conference, hosted by Yale University earlier this April. In this, our third annual International Day, it was evident that members have gone from being colleagues to collaborators, and even perhaps from acquaintances to friends. Today Tony Blair spoke at the National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy today. In his speech, "Challenges and Opportunities in a Globalised World," Tony Blair said:"We live today in a post-ideological era of government. The fundamental political divide between left and right is a phenomenon of the 20th century. Today, the divide lies between open versus closed - in terms of your attitude to others, the economy, and ideas of others. The 21st century will more likely be about competing religious ideologies - both within religions and between them - rather than political ideologies."
